Whizzkidz Academy Montessori
How was Whizzkidz Montessori developed?
Whizzkidz Montessori began over 25 years ago in the year 1997 in a little log cabin, with only 10 kids. Over the years we have grown in leaps and bounds, and are now the foremost early childhood development institute in the Mackenzie Park area. After many successful years we are now becoming one of the most sought-after pre-primary schools in Benoni. With the continued support of our parents we embarked on opening Whizzkidz Academy Primary school and now have a complete private primary school of grades 1-7.
Our curriculum, although Montessori based, is not restricted to the Montessori Method, wherein we combine certain aspects of the national curriculum method as well and other proven learning methods to give our learners a complete and well-
Rounded education. Our main aim is to ensure that learners are school ready in all physical, social, psychological and emotional aspects. By the time learner’s graduate from pre-school, they are well prepared for a progressive schooling environment.
The dedicated staff at Whizzkidz Montessori creates an atmosphere conclusive to learning and developing, by creating a happy yet disciplined, free yet guided, and fun yet structured environment, to bring out the best in your child. You as a parent remain the main educator of your child. Together with us as teachers, we can form a partnership wherein your child can develop effectively. To achieve this, you as the parent must be involved with your child and be interested in his/her joys and sorrows. We as a school will support you and help you turn your child into a Whizzkidz leader.

Junior Section (Stage 1 of Learning)
Our Junior Section marks the first stage of our progressive 3-year pre-primary phase, where young learners begin developing the essential skills for future learning.
-
A carefully designed environment with age-appropriate equipment encourages children to explore, learn through play, and develop early coordination, fine motor control, and pre-writing skills.
-
The programme introduces pre-writing, reading, and mathematical concepts, ensuring learners are well prepared for the next stage of education.
-
Each child is monitored daily with an individual assessment checklist, and parents are kept informed through termly progress meetings.
-
A learner portfolio follows each child year to year, giving teachers a clear track record of development.
-
Where needed, learners are supported with early interventions such as speech or occupational therapy, guided by qualified specialists who form part of our extended support team.
This holistic approach ensures that every child receives the right foundation to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally before moving into mainstream schooling.
Grade 0/R
The Final Year of Pre-School (Grade R)
The final year of our pre-school programme is designed to ensure every learner is fully prepared to enter Grade 1 with confidence. Building on the foundation laid in earlier years, learners complete Grade R with a higher standard of readiness across all key areas:
-
Writing: Mastery of alphabet formation, number writing, word building, and strong pre-writing skills.
-
Reading: Ability to read three-letter words and beyond, with successful completion of Grade R reading books.
-
Mathematics: Introduction to basic bonds, as well as addition and subtraction concepts.
At the end of Grade R, learners complete a readiness evaluation to confirm they are prepared for Grade 1. This ensures that each child progresses confidently, equipped with the skills needed for formal schooling.
Our holistic approach guarantees that learners receive a well-rounded education throughout their pre-school journey — nurturing not only academics, but also personal, social, and emotional growth before graduating into primary school.
